Athlete Interview Series - Timmy Hernandez

Oregon State | Wide Receiver

PMR: Name 3 things an athlete needs to be successful.

Timmy: Trust in self, teammates, and coaches. Willing to play any role even when that role is not what you want. Not compare yourself to others but only to your former self.

PMR: When it's all said and done and you move on to be successful in the next phase of your life, how would teammates you respected remember you as a teammate?

Timmy: Hard worker with a positive attitude who always enjoyed playing football and pushed others to be better.

PMR: Knowing what you know now in your career, what do you wish you knew back in high school?

Timmy: College athletes are not these super human grown men. They are 20 year old kids who still have a ways to go to be great football players and welcome new teammates with open arms.

PMR: How do you manage adversity or what tools do you use in dealing with adversity?

Timmy: Faith in God

PMR: Name a coach or teammate over the course of your career that has had the biggest impact on you and why?

Timmy: Kefense Hynson - 2018 WR Coach at Oregon State. First college coach who really believed in my ability and gave me a chance to be a good player. Also did not try to change who I was but focused on using my strengths while building up my weaknesses.

PMR: In a team environment, what role do you usually take on?

Timmy: Semi-Vocal. Nobody likes or respects someone who is constantly trying to be the alpha-male, but it is important to speak up when something is actually important.

PMR: What one skill do you possess that most impacts the teams you've played on?

Timmy: Positive attitude

PMR: What is the greatest, or one of the greatest lessons you've learned going through the process?

Timmy: Go back and watch the film. You never played as bad as you thought and you never played as good as you thought.

PMR: In order to continually test yourself physically and mentally you must have a strong "why". What is your "why"?

Timmy: Getting to professional sports allows you to have a platform and the money to make a difference in the world. Money and a platform is not the only way to impact the world but it is a great way to inspire others to follow your lead.
