Developing Our Mindset To Reach Our Potential

Developing our mindset is essential in reaching our potential. But before we go down that road, it's important to understand where our mindset sits.

Imagine this:

There's an event, an action, a message....ultimately, something happens and we'll call that a stimulus. And after that "something" happens, you respond in a certain way. We'll call this your response. But in between that stimulus and your response is your mindset. And your current mindset will determine how you respond. It looks something like this:

Our mindset is the filter that will determine our response. The better our mindset, the better our response.

Here's another way to look at it: Our mindset is like a water filter. No matter how muddy or dirty the water is that flows into the filter, a great filter will produce great drinking water. At the same time, no matter how clean and clear the water is that flows into a filter, a bad filter will produce nasty, undrinkable water. The filter determines whether or not we can drink. Our mindset determines our response.

It's not what happens to you, it's how you respond to it. It's not what you see, it's how you see it. It's not what your hear, it's how you hear it. It's not what you do, it's how you do it. We're not always in control of the "what", but we are in control of the "how". And that is the separator between you and your competition. You are in control of your mindset. Which means, you are in control of whether or not you reach your potential.

And what is your potential? Potential is defined as your capacity to develop your skills with effort. Do you have the "capacity" to develop your skills with effort? Capacity is your mindset. Do you have the mindset or the belief system to develop your skills with effort? You can't reach your potential without developing your mindset. And the mindset that we want to develop is called a "growth mindset".

We'll continue to look at how we can develop a growth mindset in the future, but for now, ask yourself a few questions:

"How do you feel when you perform your best?"

"What keeps you from performing your best?"

"Do you truly believe that you can improve your mindset?"

"Do you know how to improve your mindset?"

If you want to reach your potential, keep checking back in and learn to develop your mindset to put you in the best positions to reach your dreams. We'll begin to answer those questions above and more, and teach you how to unlock your full potential.
